11 Fire Stations
Puerto Rico

Naguabo and Adjuntas fire stations are two of the 11 fire stations we've supported with reliable solar power and battery storage so they can continue serving their communities during grid outages.
We began installing solar on the first fire station just two weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico. Most of the stations were using diesel generators to power their operations, but some of those generators had stopped working. By providing solar+storage power for critical loads, the first responders at the 11 stations we supported can continue answering 911 calls and effectively dispatching personnel to fight fires and tackle other emergencies.

Puerto Rico Fire Department personnel helped us prioritize which stations to power with solar+storage, and the systems were installed between 2017 and 2019. The 11 stations EBL installed solar+storage power on include:

1. Barrio Obrero (San Juan)
2. Metro (San Juan)
3. Naguabo
4. Angeles
5. Lares
6. San Sebastian
7. Castañer
8. Las Marias
9. Vieques
10. Adjuntas
11. Peñuelas
Our partners for our projects in Puerto Rico include MCS Foundation, Sunnova Energy, Sunrun, WindMar Foundation, Canadian Solar, Greentech Renewables, Aireko Energy Group, Para la Naturaleza, Casa Pueblo, Estuario, Footprint Project, the Kresge Foundation, Electric Planet Foundation, and Cypress Creek Renewables, as well as hundreds of individuals.
In addition to supporting the island's critical infrastructure, our projects demonstrate that restoring power to devastated areas with renewable energy technology can happen quickly and create better resilience for future extreme weather events.
